Technology loves affection, cleanliness, and lubrication. And it is about the latter that this instruction is written. Yes, the laser machine, or rather, it’s metal rubbing elements, guides that move the portal and the carriage with the laser head, ballscrews or screw pairs, table lifting screws, as well as bearings and some other components, require periodic lubrication. With what regularity? It all depends on the operating mode. Some do it weekly, someone on a monthly basis. There are no specific time limits. The main thing is that there is a lubricant. Periodically inspect all these nodes, they are in the public domain.

And do not forget about the lubrication before the first start of the laser machine as part of the commissioning work. At the plant, in the vast majority of cases, there is a preservative lubricant, which is not always suitable for the active operation of displacement systems.

What you will need to lubricate the laser machine


In fact, everything is simple. But in order for everything to be done correctly, it is necessary to comply with the requirements for both the procedure, materials and tools.


This is what the general set looks like:

  • masking tape
  • WD-40
  • transmission oil (preferably mineral, suitable viscosity 80W-90)
  • lint-free rag material or paper towel
  • gloves, so as not to get your hands dirty, and some clothes that are not sorry to get dirty
  • shaft bearing grease (Litol-24)
  • oilcan
  • brush
  • plunger syringe with flexible hose
  • press-oiler (grease gun) for the nozzle of the syringe

Screw pair lubrication

In our machines, these nodes are located under the working field. Their purpose is to raise/lower the working surface (Z-axis). To get to them, you need to open the doors in the lower front part of the laser machine body.

  • transmission oil (preferably mineral, suitable viscosity 80W-90)
  • lint-free rag material or paper towel
  • gloves, so as not to get your hands dirty, and some clothes that are not sorry
  • to get dirty

How to lubricate


De-energize the laser machine. Before greasing, we pre-clean everything from the remnants of old grease with dirt, sprinkling it on the WD-40 nodes (carefully, without getting on the belts). We wait for a minute, after which we wipe everything, and after making sure that all the nodes are clean, we lubricate the transmission oil with a brush.

The nuts can be spilled with transmission oil using an oiler and run them through the screws down and up (lowering and raising the working surface), after turning on the laser machine.
Lubrication of rail (profile linear) guides with bearings (HIWIN and analogs)

Rail guide lubrication

On our laser machines, these linear movement systems are located in the working area on the right and left side (the portal moves along them on the Y axis), and one rail guide is located on the portal itself, along which the linear module (carriage) with the laser head (X axis) moves.

  • WD-40
  • transmission oil (preferably mineral, suitable viscosity 80W-90)
  • lint-free rag material or paper towel
  • gloves, so as not to get your hands dirty, and some clothes that are not sorry to get dirty
  • brush
  • plunger syringe with flexible hose
  • press-oiler (grease gun) for the nozzle of the syringe

After that, carefully, without getting on the belts, we spray the WD-40 guides, wait for a minute, wipe with a lint-free rag material or a paper towel. Next, we inspect the guides and after you make sure that there are no dirt and foreign bodies left on them, we use a brush to lubricate the guides with transmission oil.

If you do not have a plunger syringe to lubricate the bearings in the linear modules (carriages), you can easily move the portal back and forth, and the carriage with the laser head to the left and right, so that the transmission oil somehow gets inside the linear modules. But this does not always lead to the desired result.

The complete lubrication of the bearings in the linear module (carriage) is as follows. Turn off module on the side of the Central screw. To clean the entrails, sprinkle in the hole WD-40. We move the portal and the carriage with the laser head back and forth. Slowly, without fanaticism. After that, you can once again spray the WD-40. We wait a few minutes, take a plunger syringe with a flexible hose with a suitable oil press (grease gun). We screw in a press-oiler (grease gun) instead of a screw. We take a plunger syringe, fill it with transmission oil, put the nozzle of the syringe on the oil press, and slowly (without fanaticism) squeeze the transmission oil into the linear module in a volume of about 2 milliliters. Next, we disconnect the nozzle of the syringe from the oil press, unscrew the grease gun and tighten the screw back.

To fully lubricate the bearings in the linear module (carriage) on the laser machines (in the basic configuration) MCLaser 3020, Kimian 4040 and Kimian 6040, use a regular medical syringe.

After adding the lubricant to the linear modules, we move the portal and the carriage with the laser head back and forth. Slowly, without fanaticism.

At the end of the procedure for greasing the linear guides with the module, we remove the painters tape from the optics.

Shaft bearing lubrication

These bearings are located on the shaft located in the rear upper part of the laser machine. This shaft is responsible for moving the portal along the Y-axis. Depending on the design of the machine, the shaft bearings are accessed either from the working area or at the rear of the laser machine through the compartment where the laser tube is located, on the shaft they are usually located in the left and right parts.

  • shaft bearing grease (Litol-24)
  • plunger syringe with a flexible hose

Lubrication of circular guides

Cylindrical guides are mainly equipped with semi-professional laser machines (Kimian). They are located in the work area on the left or right (or both) and are responsible for moving the portal along the Y-axis. Ball bushings (linear bearings) move along the cylindrical guides.

How to lubricate

After that, carefully, without getting on the belts, we spray the WD-40 guides, wait for a minute, wipe with a rag material. Next, we inspect the guides and after you make sure that there are no dirt and foreign bodies left on them, we use a brush to lubricate the guides with transmission oil.

At the end of the procedure for lubricating the cylindrical guides, we remove the painters tape from the optics
